Return of the What?

I hope everyone had a fabulous holiday. I got the sweetest toy for Christmas – my own Pocket PC! I’ll write more about it later. For right now I wanted to share a moment I experienced yesterday, that few of you will find amusing. But those of you that do, you'll really know what I mean.

So, I went to get my hair cut yesterday. And when I sat down, the girl cutting my hair said, “Have you seen that new movie, Return of the King?” I said I had, about three times now. I was glad, because I figured that I’d have something to talk to the hairdresser about while she cut off (a lot!) of my hair. Here’s the ensuing conversation.

“I was just so impressed with that movie!” she exclaimed.
“Yeah, I’m a huge Lord of the Rings fan,” I said. “I love those movies.”
“Man, I was so excited for that elf-princess girl to come in the end and meet up with that guy with the dark hair, whatever-his-name-was, who became the king, I think.”

I was quiet for a second. But I tried to continue.

“Return of the King does a great job of the book, in my opinion.”
“Oh, I haven’t read the books,” she responded.
“Yeah, the books are great. But the movies do a great job of capturing them, in general,” I tried to continue.
“I’ll bet. Are the other movies good, too?”

Needless to say, I spent the rest of the hair-cutting experience in silence.

Marianne, you should never go to a salon and expect much of an intelligent conversation. Nothing against the profession, they just see a lot of people, and they probably have the same conversation all day long with everyone. But I can understand how you feel.

well maybe not genius but the person wasn't too dumb-- i'm sure they make plenty of money compared to the average hair styling place-- regardless of their lack of moral values in that area.

On behalf of hairdressers, we are not all airheads! However that is part of the reason why the profession no longer appeales to me. There weren't that many other stylists that had brains.... but for the few of us who did I had to say hello. I don't know if I have any brain cells left anymore, though, kids kind of fry those up pretty quick. Unfortunately I had to go into *** to pick up of all people my niece, Teinei. Her mother's friend owns the place. And I must say she is NOT one of the brightest people, however she is making a whole heck of a lot more money then I am. It just goes to show what this world is coming to. Sad.
